Village Chawand, Taluka Zunnar
I joined the association in 2013 after participating in meetings initiated by Chintaman Utale, a V.C.D.M animator. I was attracted to the thought process and discussions that took place at these meetings. To my surprise, I found these to be magnetic and joyful, a path that would take me to emancipation from my limitations and problems and helping me to overcome some of the problems at hand.
After a while, the animators encouraged me to hold meetings in my village, following that, a macro-economic group emerged, made up entirely of women. It allowed us to become financially independent and to gain confidence in ourselves. We were able to act and take our destiny in our hands.
Then, together with the other women in the village, we began a dialogue about the causes of our poverty and other limiting factors, the problems we faced on daily basis, and found solutions to address them. We started to tackle more and more serious problems : village water supply, allocation of the funds by government for different schemes etc. At the beginning of our work, women’s participation was almost zero, now most women are present at the assemblies (gram sabha) and can have their say, due to our efforts.
